​Fox13 and Cyprus Credit Union surprised sixth-grade teacher Mrs. Jones at Willow Elementary School in Tooele with a $1,000 check and the title of Teacher of the Month! Mrs. Jones was nominated thanks to her one-on-one attention to students and taking the time to recognize their unique strengths. She has been teaching for more than two decades and says she keeps coming back year after year thanks to her incredible students. Congratulations Mrs. Jones! See the article and video!

Carol Robertson is a superhero in her classroom- she uses a unique incentive program for her students to set and achieve goals. Once a student has achieved their academic or behavior goal, they get to spend the day at ‘superhero headquarters’! A posh desk that is outfitted with a pillow, seat cushion, decorations, snacks, and postcards they can send to their family. The students work hard to earn this reward, just as Carol works hard to creatively motivate her students. Thanks for being a TEA member and helping Tooele students achieve!

This month we pause to remember all we’re thankful for. I’m sure you’ve got an amazing teacher you work with who makes that list. Please consider taking a few minutes to nominate a teacher or two (or three or four!) from your school district for the UEA Excellence in Teaching Award. The nomination deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 6, but don’t wait that long! As of right now, few nominations have been received, so the chances of your nominated teacher being selected are very good. Ten winning teachers will each receive a $1,500 cash award and recognition at a special banquet held in their honor next May.
Nominating a teacher is easy! Just visit myUEA.org/awards for award details, then complete the online nomination form or print, complete and mail the paper nomination form.
