TEA Job Descriptions

TEA President

TEA Vice President​

  • Preside as Chair of the Executive Board
  • ​Serve as chief spokesperson for the Association
  • Preside over meetings of the Association Representatives (AR) and all meetings of the membership
  • ​Vote to break a tie
  • Appoint committee chairs and give direction to chairs with input from the Executive Board
  • Direct the affairs of the Association as its administrative officer and perform other duties as they arise
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Office Manager to develop a budget for the year and materials for Association meetings
  • Attend UniServ and UEA Council of Local Presidents’ meetings
  • Attend the UEA Leadership Academy in June
  • Serve as a delegate to the NEA Representative Assembly
  • Serve as a delegate to the UEA House of Delegates
  • Attend District Board of Education meetings
  • ​Represent the Association at meetings and conferences
  • Visit schools to meet with teachers
  • Attend Association Representative (AR) meetings on the designated day of each month. Deliver meeting materials to liaison schools when AR is unable to attend meetings. 
  • Be available to attend TEA meetings at schools as assigned by the President/Executive Director or asked by the AR
  • Serve as a liaison to 3-5 schools and work with the AR as needed
  • Attend Executive Board meetings held on designated day of each month
  • Serve as an active member of the District committees
  • Accept additional assignments generated during Executive Board meetings
  • Serve as a delegate to the UEA House of Delegates
  • Attend the NEA Representative Assembly (NEA/RA) during July at least once during the three-year term. Report and disseminate information to the membership regarding pertinent issues raised during the RA upon request
  • Serve as a leader and decision maker advocate for TEA interests and concerns
  • Assist in the clean-up after TEA functions
  • Attend the UEA Leadership Academy in June

TEA Executive Board

Association Representative 

  • Serve as acting local President in the absence of the duly elected local President
  • Attend meetings when the local President is not available
  • Serve as a leader advocate for membership and Association interests
  • Attend monthly Executive Board and AR meetings
  • Plan and coordinate the annual Association Representative training
  • Assist the President in the performance of his/her duties as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President and Executive Board
  • • Attend UniServ and Council Local Presidents’ meetings
  • Serve as a delegate to the NEA Representative Assembly
  • Serve as a delegate to the UEA House of Delegates
  • Attend District Board of Education meetings as directed by the President
  • Serve on committees as directed by the President
  • Attend the monthly TEA AR meetings. If unable to attend, arrange for someone to represent your school
  • Conduct at least one monthly TEA meeting for members in your building to share the TEA information
  • Assist in the recruiting of non-members to join the TEA
  • Create and maintain an up-to-date TEA Bulletin Board at your school
  • Distribute TEA material and information to members in a timely manner
  • Listen, communicate and follow-up with concerns. Call and inform your Executive Board liaison or the TEA office (801-262-6627) of concerns and questions
  • Familiarize faculty with the Negotiated Agreement and support compliance at all times
  • Represent teacher rights as provided in the Negotiated Agreement when necessary
  • Conduct the TEA elections at your school and return ballots by the due date
  • Assist in helping find members for committees, phone banks, political campaigns, and other short term activities as needed
  • Volunteer to represent TEA as a delegate to the UEA House of Delegates 
  • Preside over school job action activities and special situations as directed by the TEA President/Executive Director. Keep members informed of the Association's position on issues
  • Initiate, maintain and activate your building's phone tree and home email list when needed by the Association
  • Assign one member /per month from school to attend school board meetings
